I want to be on the couch watching Dan make his Tony Hawk characters fall down flights of stairs on PS3 not in the office alone at 8am. We’re both really sick and I have to get my stitches out today and all I wanna do is yell at him for making me sick but I made him sick and Sam just texted me saying she drank my water so she’s gonna get sick toooooooo. I wish I was asleep still.
Day One: I spent the majority of Friday night at the Alfred Hospital because of an unfortunate incident involving my finger and some glass so naturally I’m feeling ready to party. It’s 6am, I can’t feel my hand/face and my friend Adele rocks up in her van to pick me up.
It’s 7am and we’re leaving Brunswick in a Convey aiming for Bush Camp. I fall asleep listening to Girls. I blame the country. How do people live there? I contemplate what my life would be like in my dream and I am awoken by dust to the face as we arrive with what seems like the entire rest of the festival punters at the entry gates. 45 minutes and 6 confiscated melbourne bitters later we had our press passes and we were in.
Lost our convoy. Randomly tracked them down and managed to set up camp with them. Discover our tent is a two man. Thought it was a 6 man. Awkward. Find some more tents. Went for a wander around, mainly to check out if there were any babes near us. Babes confimed. I chose to celebrate this by napping for 3 hours.
When I awoke everyone was playing Uno. I hate that game. I napped for another 5 hours.
Decided I shouldn’t waste the day napping. I got up and it was night time. I wasted the day napping. But that’s okay. Went down to the Ampitheatre to check out Bon Iver. Gotta say, watching Bon Iver from The Meredith Eye was pretty beautiful. The only thing that could have ruined it would have been bad company. Enter - psycho girl. The dudes running the ferris wheel put her in our carriage to balance it out. She seemed normal for all of two minutes before turning bat shit insane. We tried to film videos for our web review, she continually yelled out her phone number to anyone who would listen as well as telling us all about her self confidence issues and that she wanted to pinch all of the boys cheeks and marry Bon EYE-VO. It was pretty amusing.
To be honest I don’t really remember much of day one. I was so whacked out on sleep/drugs from my hand I couldn’t really tell you much. Bon Iver was pretty magical though.
Day Two: After getting something like 10 hours sleep I felt pretty good. So good infact I thought a 10.30am beer was a good idea. It wasn’t. My appetite returned so I thought ordering two sandwiches was a good idea too. It wasn’t. You live and you learn.
We got our shit together and set up a prime position under a tree facing the stage. I don’t think I moved from that position all day. I got severly burnt/drunk in the sun. Shots of vodka at 3pm are never a good idea. First Aid Kit were really good. I decided to go back to the camp site and sleep off the heat stroke.
Woke up feeling refreshed and decided to take that new found feeling and trash it with more shots of vodka. It’s kind of blank between 7pm-10pm. We decided to yet again see the sights from The Meredith Eye. This was probably the worst decision we made all day. I wanted to vomit the entire time. So did Kate. It felt like we were spinning for ten million hours. They let us off the ride at 10.35pm, 5 minutes before Black Lips were due onstage.
Black Lips were amazing. Pretty similiar set to that they played on Wednesday night at The Corner. Found Tom in the crowd, he convinced us to go down the front of the stage for Chic which turned out to be the best decision of the night. I haven’t danced like that in a while. As much as I love Black Lips, Chic blew them out of the water. Their set was insane. I didn’t think things could get any better until someone found a large pole and everybody started doing the Limbo. And then Naysayer and Gilsun got ready. Three giant screens came onstage and nobody really knew what was going on. Then the multimedia mash up began and everyone lost their shit a little bit.
I don’t really remember much after that.
Day Three: It’s 10am and most of our friends are gone. I feel like I have crawled out of a bin. Kate wakes up with an “I think I’m still drunk” revalation which is just what we want to hear from our driver. Somehow manage to pack away the tent. Stopped off in Meredith. Ate a pie. Fell asleep. Got home. Passed out.
Things I enjoyed - Black Lips - Sunshine - Good friends - Chic - Naysayer & Gilsun - Total Control - The Meredith Eye
Things I didn’t enjoy - Random guys touching me (Seriously, this needs to not be a thing) - The fucking people dressed in red who took over our chill out area - Having to sleep in order to survive - Having an injury
Golden Plains 2012 = success.
I’m really going to miss that festival when I’m in the UK. There’s nothing quite like it, really, anywhere.
